More often than not, if you have kids, you probably have one of Amy Krouse Rosenthal's books. Her children's books have been constant favorites of Chloe's and they were extra fun for me to read. I loved her witty sense of humor in her books from toddler favorites like Little Pea to the book above, Chopsticks that is hands down one of Chloe's all time favorites for the last four years (with Spoon as a close second). She saw me pick it from her bookshelf this morning and I just found her read it again still laughing out loud on the couch. (She's currently home sick from school.)
What moved me this weekend was reading the Modern Love column in the NY Times, "You May Want to Marry My Husband." In it, Rosenthal talks about her diagnosis of ovarian cancer and how now in the last throes of her life, is seeking a mate for her wonderful husband. It's a tearful love story to a man who can flip a pancake and who brought her flowers after her first ultrasound. I can't write more about it because I'll really start to tear up. All I can say is definitely take the time to read her column. It was very moving and once again, you see how Rosenthal just has that gift with writing. I don't know Amy Krouse Rosenthal in person at all but I feel like I've known her for the last 8 years that I have been reading her books with my daughter. Chloe and I plan on celebrating her life this week by reading our favorite books of hers.
Thank you Amy for bringing laughter, fun and the love of reading into our home.
