App Review: Toca Life: Office

Kids can take themselves to work with the new Toca Life: Office app ($2.99 at App Store | Google Play | Amazon) that's just landed today from Toca Boca. Sure there's laptops and printers, but don't forget, this is Toca Boca land where amazing adventures are always on hand. I love these exploratory games because the kids are just free to use their imagination and play.

There are thirty-five new characters that are all diverse and really, really cute – including the little hamsters which are Chloe's favorite. There are costumes in different locations so you can turn any character into a superhero!

There are also six locations kids can explore: bank, office, rooftop, courthouse, apartment and daycare.

I love that you can put on little wigs on the characters in the courthouse.

Of course, Chloe is always obsessed with figuring out the little secrets. Here you can enter in the "secret code" on the desk to open up a vault for a superhero costume!

The bank is really cool. You can keep all the valuables safe and set the alarm.

At the end of the work day, you can fly home on a helicopter!

This is such a detailed and immersive game that Chloe loved exploring every minute of it! And like all Toca Boca games, I love that there is no in-app advertising. It's all open-ended fun for kids!

App Review: Sago Mini Trucks and Diggers

Sago Sago has just launched a new app, Sago Mini Trucks and Diggers ($2.99 on iTunes). This game features the familiar lovable Sago Mini animals that kids have fallen in love with over the years. Let's be honest here, kids are always fascinated by those big construction machines from bulldozers to drillers. With all the construction we have going on in San Francisco, my daughter is always looking out the car window reporting to me what's happening with what machine. This game takes a child's love for construction and mixes it into the whimsical Sago Mini world. Kids can choose from various diggers to help build a home for an animal friend. Chloe's favorite machine is the chipper where you can not only chip trees, but silly things like jelly toast or a bone.

This game works perfectly for both boys and girls. Chloe loves decorating portion of the game the most, when fun items drop from the sky (windows, candy canes, flowers) and she can decorate the animal friend's new house. The mushroom house is her favorite!

In Sago Mini Trucks and Diggers, there is no shortage of fun and cute animated surprises that will keep kids entertained. I personally love the Sago Mini (and Toca Boca) games for their ingenuity, smart play and also for their safe content.

PBS Parents Play & Learn App: Help Build Kids' Math Skills

My husband has a math degree and he's always trying to incorporate fun math games or whatnot into our daughter's play. PBS KIDS recently announced their new initiative, It All Adds Up, a fun and educational new initiative focused on providing families with educational resources to support informal math learning at home.

The new PBS Parents Play & Learn App features more than a dozen games parents can play with their kids, connecting math and literacy skills to everyday experiences. The app works on the iPad, iPhone, Kindle, Android and more. You can download the app depending on your device from this page.
